inUpgrading from VMware vSAN 7 to vSAN 8
VMware vSAN 7 (vSphere 7) can be upgraded in-place to vSAN 8 (vSphere 8) with the original storage architecture (OSA). You cannot upgrade in-place from vSAN 7 to vSAN 8 Express Storage Architecture (ESA). Moving from vSAN 7 to vSAN 8 ESA requires a migration of data from the old vSAN 7 cluster to a new vSAN 8 ESA cluster.
